116 people died drowning and more than 42,000 rescued within two months

During the past two months, civil protection services recorded the death of 116 people who drowned and the rescue of 42,366 others at several beaches across the national territory, according to a report issued today, Wednesday, by the same services.

The source indicated that “as part of the practical apparatus dedicated to guarding beaches, the protection services recorded, in the period from June 16 to August 16, the death of 116 people who drowned, 63 of them at beaches prohibited for swimming and 53 of them in beaches permitted for swimming and 18 beyond the working hours of the Civil Protection.”

The same services also recorded the death of 67 people who drowned in water ponds, most of them teenagers.

It’s worth recalling that the General Directorate of Civil Protection launched a preventive awareness campaign against the dangers related to the summer season, in particular the dangers related to the sea and swimming in water ponds.
