15 drug dealers arrested and more than 3 quintals of drugs imported from Morocco have been seized

Detachments of the People’s National Army managed, within a week, to arrest six elements of support for terrorist groups, during separate operations across the national territory, according to a report issued today, Wednesday, by the Ministry of National Defense.

As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the National People’s Army arrested, between May 4 and May 10, 6 elements of support for terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.

In the framework of “fighting organized crime and continuing the relentless efforts aimed at confronting the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, joint detachments of the National People’s Army, in coordination with various security services, in the regions of the second and third military regions, arrested 15 drug dealers and thwarted attempts to smuggle in 3 quintals and 88 kilograms of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco, while 19 other drug dealers were arrested and 154 kilograms of the same substance, as well as 73,886 hallucinogenic tablets, were seized during various operations through other military regions,” the same source added.

Meanwhile, “Detachments of the National People’s Army in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Ain Guezzam and Djanet, arrested 178 people and seized 15 vehicles, 221 generators, 123 pressure hammers, quantities of explosives, detonation devices and other equipment used in illegal gold mining operations, while eight people were arrested and a Kalashnikov submachine gun, 6 hunting rifles, two (02) automatic pistols, 33,000 packs of tobacco and 10,500 units of various beverages were seized in In Amenas, El Oued, Biskra, Batna and Tamanrasset. The border guards also thwarted attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel, estimated at 6,327 liters, in Tebessa, El Tarf and Souk Ahras.”

In another context, the coast guards thwarted “attempts to migrate illegally on our national coasts and rescued 172 people who were on board traditional boats, while 86 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory.”

These operations, which were carried out by units and detachments of the National People’s Army during this period, fall within the context of the “continuous efforts made in combating terrorism and combating organized crime in all its forms,” .
