
27 people have died from drowning, including 26 in the sea, in the coastal provinces of the country over the last 48 hours, according to a report issued today, Saturday, by the civil protection services.
The same source indicated that 26 people drowned in the sea in Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Skikda, Bejaia, Chlef, Oran, Annaba and El Tarf, while a teenager drowned in a river in Skikda.
With regard to traffic accidents, the Civil Protection Units made 350 interventions following several accidents recorded across several provinces causing 8 deaths and 523 injuries with varying severity.
As for the struggle against the forest fires and agricultural crops, the Civil Protection units intervened to put out 51 fires from vegetation cover in the provinces of El Tarf, Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, Jijel, Ain Temouchent, Setif, Skikda, Boumerdes, Ain Defla, Tebessa, Tlemcen and Chlef. These fires ravaged 846 hectares of forest, 252 hectares of bushes as well as1189 fruit trees and 44 palm trees.
Regarding the forest fires extinction until nine o’clock this morning, the same source confirmed that 4 fires in El Tarf and Skikda states have been extinguished.
Civil protection services indicated that the surveillance process continues by the forest firefighting agency, in addition to the process of extinguishing and combating two fires that broke out in the province of Tlemcen.
