35th African Union Summit opens in Addis Ababa

The 35th African Union Summit, began on Saturday tackling issues of peace and security on the continent and the repercussions of the corona pandemic, migration, poverty and economic integration.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, representative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at this summit will present, on the second day of the summit, a report on the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.

Under the theme “Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent: Strengthening Agro-Food System, Health and Social Protection Systems for the Acceleration of Human, Social and Economic Capital Development” the summit is expected to address issues of peace, security, governance, AU institutional reform, the continent’s joint efforts to combat the fallout from the Corona pandemic, and economic cooperation.

This session will see the chairmanship of the summit pass from the President of the Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, to the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall.
