A technical committee begins inspecting houses damaged by Oran yesterday earthquake

A provincial technical committee began examining today, Monday, the houses damaged by the earthquake that hit yesterday, Sunday, the province of Oran, according to a statement issued by the provincial authorities.

After the field inspection, this committee will submit a detailed report in implementation of the instructions of the governor of the province of Oran, Said Saïoud, who visited yesterday evening the municipalities of Arzew, Sidi Benbak and Bettioua among others to check on the safety of citizens and to find out about the houses that had some cracks as a result of the earthquake.

The governor assured the citizens of taking all necessary measures and taking care of all those affected by this earthquake.

For his part, the head of the Arzew district, Aziz Ezzedine, affirmed that the committee paid a visit with the services of the district and the municipality in order to carry out the inspecting of houses, shops and organizations that had some cracks.

The same official indicated that no major material damage was recorded, except for some cracks, in addition panic among some citizens, especially the young ones.

It’s worth recalling that an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded yesterday, Sunday, at 20:17, in Oran, according to the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics.

The same source indicated that the epicenter of the tremor was located 12 km north of the municipality of Kadil in the same province.

The earthquake was also followed by two aftershocks of magnitude 4 and 3.2 on the Richter scale.
