Abderrahmane Benbouzid oversees launch of mobile diabetes screening clinic

Health Minister Abderrahmane Benbouzid oversaw the launch of the mobile diabetes screening clinic in Algiers on Sunday.

The mobile clinic will travel to the wilaya of Bejaïa and will be followed by other screening clinics for various non-communicable diseases which will travel through different wilayas of the country.

On this occasion, Mr. Benbouzid stressed that this clinic on awareness and screening for diabetes, with the support of the mobile clinic “Driving Diabetes” follows several clinics launched by the Ministry of Health with various partners and recalled that the supervisory authority, and through its local directorates, “organizes these mobile caravans since 2011 as part of a partnership with Novo Nordisk laboratories, thus bringing the number of campaigns to 35 with some 60,000 screening operations”.

“Equipped with state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic tools, the mobile clinic will have criss-crossed the entire national territory in 2021 as part of the anti-covid-19 vaccination campaign”, underlined Mr. Benbouzid.

However, he added, this is the first time the clinic has been equipped with a photovoltaic energy system, which will reduce CO2 emissions and provide a healthy work space far from any noise pollution previously caused by the generators necessary for the operation of the equipment.

In its environmental dimension, this initiative would be “a pledge of goodwill and falls within the framework of the instructions of the President of the Republic aimed at supporting renewable energies and reducing CO2 emissions to preserve the environment”.

He specified that several challenges arise in the current period, mainly the need to strengthen and continue the actions already started, through the permanent involvement of all the stakeholders, in particular the associative movement, and to strengthen the effective implementation of all measures relating to the improvement of prevention and patient care.

The Ministry of Health strives, through the activity of these clinics, to promote citizens’ access to care, within the framework of a local approach, and to strengthen the relationship with the doctor.

The launch ceremony of this clinic was enhanced by the presence of the Minister of the Environment, Samia Moualfi, the Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Ziane Benattou and the Danish Ambassador to Algeria, Vanessa Vega Saynz , in addition to representatives of the company “Novo Nordisk” and executives of the central administration.
