Actor Ahmed Benaissa dies at the age of 78

Actor and theater director Ahmed Benaissa died at the age of 78 due to a health problem, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Culture and Arts.

Ahmed Benaissa was born in 1944 in Algiers, where he had a long career in Algerian theater and cinema. He began his film career in 1971 and played roles in many films and with several directors such as Benamar Bakhti, Merzak Allouache, Djamila Sahraoui, Ahmed Rachedi and Rachid Bouchareb.

The deceased was an actor known for his exceptional talent, as he carried out many projects on stage in Algiers and Oran alongside the greatest figures of the fourth Algerian art. The late Ahmed Benaissa was director of the regional theater of Sidi Bel Abbes in 1995, in light of the difficult circumstances that the country experienced during the black decade.

He was also very close to the young actors, as he launched and led the “Nedjma” project, which allowed young amateur actors to be brought closer to Kateb Yacine’s script and to present dozens of new rising faces.
