Actor Mustapha Benchougrani dies at age 82

Actor Mustapha Benchougrani died on Sunday in Algiers, at the age of 82, the national theater (TNA) announced on its official page.

Born in July 19, 1940 in Mostaganem, the deceased made his debut in the band of Ould Abderrahmane Kaki where he brilliantly performed his first role in the play “El Garagouz”. He also performed on stage with Saidia association and the Algerian Muslim Scouts (SMA), alongside many tenors of the theater of the time, such as Mohamed Chouikh, Maazouz Bouadjadj, Djamel Ben Sabeur and many others. .

Known for his activism against the French occupation, the actor who attended the School of Dramatic Arts in 1964, participated in several theatrical plays with the band of Ould Abderrahmane Kaki before joining the TNA where he rubbed shoulders with the great director Mustapha Kateb.

The artist has, to his credit, unforgettable plays such as “Ah ya Hassan”, “Galou laarab Galou”, “Amar bouzwar” and “Djeha sold his donkey”. He has also participated in many films including “Hassan Taxi” by Benamar Bekhti, “autopsy of a plot” by Mohamed Slim Riad and “December” by Lakhdar Hamina, in addition to his participation in TV drama series.

The body of late Benchougrani will be buried Sunday after the prayer of El Asr at the cemetery of El Alia (Algiers).
