Acts of violence in Kherrata: 22 defendants were placed under temporary detention and 8 subjected to judicial supervision

The investigative judge at the Court of Sidi M’hamed (Algiers) issued orders to
place 22 defendants in temporary detention and subject 8 others to judicial
oversight, following investigations related to the recent incidents in the city of
Kherrata, according to a press release issued by the Public Prosecutor at the
same court, adding that “on September 2, 2021, a group of suspects planned and
organized an unauthorized gathering, through which slogans that undermined
the unity of the homeland and called for division and disobedience were raised,
and when the security services intervened, they were subjected to acts of
violence and sabotage of others’ property, which led to the arrest of the most
important elements of this group, so it became clear that many of them were
supporters of the terrorist movement known as the MAK.
The same source indicated that “after completing the preliminary investigations,
on September 7, 2021, the accused were presented before our services and
referred to the investigating judge, who, after confronting them with the acts
committed, informing them of the charges against them and interrogating them
according to the requirements of the law, he issued against 22 defendants orders
to place them in temporary detention, while 8 of them were subjected to judicial
oversight obligations.”
