Agreement on media coordination on issues of common interest between Algeria and Egypt

Minister of Communication and official spokesman for the government, Ammar Belhimer, agreed with the head of the Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation, Karam Gaber, in Cairo, on media coordination on issues of common interest between the two countries.

During their meeting in the Egyptian capital on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, the two sides agreed to exchange visits and joint media programs between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the Communication Minister met, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League, the head of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, where he extended, on the occasion, his thanks and gratitude to the Executive Office and its management and to Iraq for its “positions in support of Algeria”, stressing that the Iraqi-Algerian relations “ are bound and must continue as such, as the spark of liberation started from Baghdad.”

The Minister also expressed his readiness for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of media and communication to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

For his part, the head of the office congratulated the government and people of Algeria on the “success of the legislative elections and the achievement of constitutional institutions,” underlining “the support of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers for all recommendations and observations made by Algeria to support its democratic path.”

The same official invited Mr. Belhimer to visit Iraq or exchange visits of media delegations in order to find frameworks for cooperation in the media field to serve and enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Belhimer had another meeting with the Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Information, Youssef Al-Mahmoud, during which he was briefed on the latest developments and conditions in Palestine and Jerusalem. The two sides discussed topics approved by the Arab Information Ministers meeting, especially those related to supporting Palestinian media in the face of violations against Palestinians in Jerusalem, in addition to Discussing ways and means to support and develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of media.

On the occasion, Belhimer condemned the barbaric acts committed by the Zionist occupation forces against Palestinian people, especially journalists.

The minister was also received by the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and had talks with his counterparts from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Oman, during which he stressed “the need to develop a common Arab vision and promote media content in quantity and quality.”

It is worth noting that the Minister of Communication participated, during his stay in Cairo, in the work of the 51st session of the Council of Arab Ministers and the 13th session of the Executive Office. On the sidelines of these two sessions, which were preceded by the 95th session of the Standing Committee for Arab Media, he visited Al-Ahram group for Press and Media.

During his participation in the meeting of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, the Minister of Communication stressed the “necessity of developing a common Arab vision” with “the strengthening of the Arab media presence in the cyberspace.”
