Agriculture: the President of the Republic highlights the achieved positive results

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlighted on Tuesday in Algiers, the positive results achieved in recent years by the agriculture sector, which contributes to 14.7% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“We welcome the positive results achieved in recent years by the agricultural sector, which contributes 14.7% of GDP,” said the President of the Republic in an address at the opening of the National Agriculture Conference, held at the Palais des Nations, under the theme “Agriculture: for sustainable food security”.

In this regard, he said that food security had become “a safety valve” to which governments remain attached, placing it at the top of their priorities and at the heart of their strategy, considering that the State relies on the agricultural sector to free itself from dependence on hydrocarbon revenues.

Referring to cereal production, which he described as a ” basic sector ” in view of the shortage in Europe, President Tebboune stressed the need to provide ” exact statistics ” on cereal production, recalling the imperative ” digitisation of the agricultural sector in order to accurately define production figures and exploit agricultural land “.

In the same line, he pointed out that the use of the potentialities and assets would allow switching to the export of cereals, by increasing the production.

The meeting, which was attended by senior state officials, members of the government and representatives of the agricultural sector, aimed to highlight the main achievements of the sector in recent years, to strengthen the gains made in the various agricultural sectors and to pursue measures to ensure sustainable food security.
