Algeria condemns assassinations committed by Morocco against civilians from three countries in the region

Algeria condemned “strongly the targeted assassinations committed using sophisticated weapons of war” by Morocco, outside its borders against civilians from three countries in the region, said Tuesday a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community abroad.

“Algeria strongly condemns the targeted assassinations committed with means of sophisticated weapons of war by the Kingdom of Morocco, outside its internationally recognized borders, against innocent civilians, nationals of three countries in the region”, according to the press release.

“These belligerent practices are similar to repetitive acts of State terrorism and take on the characteristics of extrajudicial executions liable to prosecution before the competent bodies of the United Nations system. This relentlessness against civilians through intentional and premeditated homicides constitutes a serious systemic violation of international humanitarian law that must be vigorously denounced and resolutely deterred.

The press release notes that “this headlong rush by the Moroccan occupying power constitutes a persistent challenge to international legality and exposes the region to particularly dangerous developments”.

The same source points out that the “adventurism carried by the expansionist aims” of the Kingdom of Morocco must challenge the United Nations Security Council as well as the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, “whose mission and appeasement efforts are seriously jeopardized by these serious and repeated breaches of security in the occupied Saharawi territories and their immediate vicinity with serious risks of potentially perilous regional drifts”.
