Algeria contributed to assisting brotherly and friendly countries affected by the impacts of the health crisis

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune said in an address, Thursday in Baku (Azerbaijan), during the Summit Meeting of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), that Algeria contributed to assisting the brotherly and friendly countries affected by the impacts of the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his speech, read on his behalf by the Prime Minister, Mr Aïmene Benabderrahmane, the President of the Republic indicated that Algeria “has never ceased to lend a helping hand to brotherly and friendly countries affected by the impact of the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and to advocate the principle of equal access to vaccines, particularly for the benefit of developing countries”.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 health crisis, Algeria “has advocated the principle of equal access to vaccines for all countries, especially developing countries, regardless of their level of economic and technological development, to enable them to enjoy their right to adequate and essential health care and to achieve the objectives of sustainable development,” he said.

In addition to the financial contribution made to the United Nations Fund for the response to Covid-19, Algeria “called on the international financial institutions to loosen the stranglehold on developing countries by adopting a series of initiatives that provide, among other things, for their debt reduction and support for their post-Covid-19 national policies”.

The NAM Contact Group Summit on Post-Covid-19 Global Recovery opened on Thursday in Baku, Azerbaijan, with the participation of Prime Minister Aimene Benabderrahmane, representing the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
