
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, paid a working visit to Pretoria on Monday, within the framework of periodic political consultations between Algeria and South Africa and in view of the upcoming bilateral deadlines, said a statement from the ministry.
“At the invitation of his South African counterpart, Mrs. Naledi Pandor, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, paid a visit to Pretoria in the framework of periodic political consultations between the two countries and in view of the upcoming bilateral meetings,” the statement said.
On this occasion, the minister held one-on-one discussions with his South African counterpart, extended thereafter to the delegations which highlighted the historical and privileged relations between the two countries and peoples as well as the will of the two parties to reinforce their strategic character within the framework of the completion of the preparations of the 7th session of the high joint committee which will be held in Algeria under the chairmanship of the two heads of state, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa who will soon pay a state visit to Algeria,” the source added.
According to the statement, the “two parties discussed issues of common interest at continental level and the world including the current crisis in international relations against the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine, the decolonisation of Palestine and Western Sahara as well as the security and peace situation in Africa in the light of the goals of Agenda 2063 of the African Union (AU)”.
The two parties noted, with satisfaction, a convergence of views and positions between the two countries based on their commitment to the principles embodied in the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the Constitutive Act of the AU in addition to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement,” the statement said.
The two ministers also agreed to continue and reinforce coordination in the framework of ministerial meetings to be held in preparation for the next AU summit,” the same source concluded.
