
The Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmehdi, said Monday in Setif that Algeria occupies the first places in international competitions of the Holy Quran thanks to the efforts made by the State in this field.
In his speech on the occasion of the 6th qualifying session of the students candidates to the international competitions of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran (1444-2023) held at the annex of the Islamic Cultural Centre, the minister said that Algeria has obtained 64 international prizes of memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran among which 21 first places and 20 second places.
He affirmed that the State pays a lot of attention to the teaching of the Holy Quran through the construction of mosques and the facilitation of the realisation of Quranic schools, pointing out that the Quranic schools welcome today 900,000 students and this number increases more during the summer.
Belmehdi added that “work is underway to consolidate and develop the Quranic education system and establish an integrated system including Quranic schools, classes, mosques and even zaouias.
