Algeria increases the capacity of the Internet international network to 7.8 terabytes per second

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Karim Bibi Triki, oversaw last night the process of increasing the capacity of the international telecommunications network.

The total installed capacity is 7.8 TB/s, after it was estimated at 2.8 TB/s in 2021 and 1.5 TB/s at the beginning of 2020.

In addition to the flexibility that this significant increase will provide, given the strategic importance of the international frequency band in securing Internet service at the local level, it will also allow the provision of appropriate conditions for the realization of the sector’s work program in its part related to the deployment of fiber optic technology and the connection of two-thirds of homes (6 million households) to the fixed Internet by the end of the year 2024, as well as keeping pace with, in a proactive manner, the increasing demand for the Internet and providing higher streaming speeds according to the offers submitted.
