Algeria-Italy: Sonatrach and Eni ink two strategic agreements on gas and emission reduction

Algeria Sonatrach and Italy “ENI” signed on Monday in Algiers two strategic agreements on increasing gas supplies and reducing emissions, Sonatrach said in a statement.

The agreements were signed in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Mrs Giorgia Meloni.

This protocol “will be based on the assessment of the following four axes: the increase of the existing gas transport capacity, the laying of a new pipeline to transport natural gas and alternatively hydrogen and blue and green ammonia, the laying of a submarine electric cable and the extension of the current natural gas liquefaction capacity,” Sonatrach also explained.

As for the second strategic intention protocol, it will ” seek to identify the opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Algeria and the best technologies for implementing such a reduction “, the press release said.

“These new agreements further strengthen the partnership between Italy and Algeria and confirm Sonatrach’s key role as one of the main European energy suppliers,” the national hydrocarbon company said.
