Algeria/Qatar: signature of memorandum of understanding for cooperation in legal field

A memorandum of understanding for legal cooperation was signed, Monday in Algiers, between Algeria and Qatar, within the framework of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation relations in the legal field and the promotion of legal action in the two countries.

The memorandum was signed on the Algerian side by the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Abderrachid Tabi and on the Qatari side by his counterpart Messaoud Ben Mohamed el Amiri.

At the end of the signing ceremony, Mr. Tabi declared that “the effectiveness of legal action inevitably involves openness to international experience, hence the signing of this agreement which is intended to be an important milestone which comes on top of a series of agreements signed between Algeria and Qatar.

Mr. Tabi also underlined that this document “will mark a new beginning, in addition to instilling a new dynamic into the cooperation between the Ministries of Justice of the two countries and which will benefit in particular lawyers, judicial experts and research centers and training schools for magistrates”.

The Minister also highlighted “the importance of the mechanism for activating the provisions of the memorandum which provide for the development of annual programs in various fields.

Mr. Tabi referred to “the exceptional historical relations uniting the Algerian and Qatari peoples, adding that “these are deep relations consolidated by decades of cooperation between the leaders of the two brotherly countries”.

For his part, the Qatari Minister of Justice, stated that the State of Qatar “shares with Algeria noble values ​​concerned with the principles of law and seeks to achieve justice through the consolidation of the principles of the state of law and institutions.”

He added that his visit to Algeria and his meeting with his Algerian counterpart, Mr. Tabi, “comes as a continuation of a path full of joint rapprochement and bilateral coordination in the judicial and legal fields between the two countries,” and that the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the legal field between the two countries constitutes a “paradigm shift” in bilateral cooperation and “opens promising horizons” for the strategic partnership that was established by His Highness, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and his brother, the Algerian President, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
