Algeria “strongly” condemns terrorist attacks in Mali

Algeria “strongly” condemned terrorist attacks on Sunday in Mali, which left dozens of innocent victims in three regions close to Nigerian border, renewing its “full solidarity with the brotherly Malian government and people,” according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad.

The press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also indicated that “in this difficult ordeal, Algeria extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and renews its full solidarity with the brotherly Malian government and people, affirming, on this occasion, its support in their fight against blind terrorism.”

In this regard, the ministry clarified that “this new attack highlights once again the need to mobilize all means and concerted efforts at the regional and international levels in order to eliminate this scourge that threatens the security, stability and development of the countries of Sahel-Saharan region and all of the African continent.”

It is noteworthy that about fifty civilians were killed on Sunday in northern Mali during terrorist attacks targeting three neighboring regions close to the Nigerian border, according to a preliminary toll of the authorities.

A document of the local police prefecture indicated that 51 people were killed in simultaneous attacks targeting villages of Karo, Watagona and Dautogft in the Gao region. Houses were also vandalized and set on fire, in addition to the seizure of livestock, according to the same source.
