Adviser to the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Hamel, was elected today, Tuesday, as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, according to the ministry.
The source indicated that Mohamed Hamel was elected Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum from among five candidates during the twenty-third ministerial meeting of the forum, in which the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, from Abu Dhabi, is participating through videoconference.
The same source indicated that Algeria’s candidate won the support of many member states of the forum.
As a reminder, the forum was established at the end of 2008 and includes 11 member states and 9 observer countries that together own three-quarters of the world’s gas reserves and contribute to more than two-thirds of gas exchanges.
The member states are Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.
The observer countries are Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Peru and the United Arab Emirates.
