Nine (09) elements of support for terrorist groups were arrested by detachments of the National People’s Army (ANP) in separate operations across the national territory, during the last week, according to an operational report published Wednesday by the Ministry of National Defense (DND).
“As part of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the People’s National Army have arrested (09) support elements for terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory”, underlines the report for the period from 23 to 29 November 2022.
According to the same source, combined detachments of the ANP, in coordination with the various security services, “thwarted attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to ( 03) quintals and (55) kilograms of processed kif” during operations carried out across the military regions.
These operations carried out within the framework of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the sustained efforts aimed at countering the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, also enabled the arrest of “(62) drug traffickers” and “the seizure of (116,940 ) psychotropic tablets”.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf, ANP detachments “intercepted (312) individuals and seized one (01) Kalashnikov type submachine gun, a quantity of ammunition, (29) vehicles, ( 264) generators, (111) jackhammers, (01) metal detector, as well as detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations”, adds the balance sheet.
The report also mentions the arrest of “(21) other individuals” and the seizure of “(04) hunting rifles, quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation amounting to (92) tons, as well as (26,941) packets of tobacco and (28,099) units of various beverages” in separate operations across the national territory.
In the same context, “the Border Guards thwarted, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to (24065) liters in Tébessa, Souk Ahras, El-Tarf and Tamanrasset, while (178) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory”.
These operations carried out by units and detachments of the ANP have resulted in “quality results which reflect the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent availability of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory”, underlines the same source.
