Arab Summit: Syria “prefers not to raise the issue of resuming its seat in the League of Arab States”

Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, had today, Sunday, a phone call with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Miqdad, who confirmed that his country “prefers not to raise the issue of resuming its seat in the League of Arab States” during the Arab summit that Algeria will host in early November, according to a statement to the Ministry.

The statement said that “in the context of completing the consultations carried out by Algeria with the Arab countries to harness all the conditions for the success of the Arab summit, which will be held in Algeria on the first and second of November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, had a phone call with his Syrian counterpart, Mr. Faisal Miqdad.

The statement indicated that “the issue of the Syrian Arab Republic’s relationship with the League of Arab States was among the issues discussed during the phone call.  The head of Syrian diplomacy affirmed that his country prefers not to raise the issue of resuming its seat in the League of Arab States during the Algiers Summit, in order to contribute to unifying the stance and the ranks of the Arab world in facing the challenges posed by the current situation at the regional and international levels.”

The two sides also expressed their aspiration that the summit would be crowned with “constructive outcomes that would contribute to clearing the atmosphere and strengthening Arab-Arab relations to enhance joint Arab action,” adds the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
