Army General Chanegriha receives South Africa’s National Defense Forces Commander

Army General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), received Tuesday in Algiers, Army General Rudzani Maphwanya, Commander of the National Defense Forces of South Africa, who is on a working visit to Algeria at the head of an important delegation, said a statement of the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).

“Mr. Army General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, received in audience, this Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the headquarters of the Staff of the ANP, Mr. Army General Rudzani Maphwanya, Commander of the National Defence Forces of South Africa, who is on a working visit to Algeria, at the head of an important delegation,” the same source said.

The welcoming ceremony began with the national flag salute and military honours, presented to the host by formations representing the different Forces of the ANP.

“The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, Force Commanders, Heads of Departments and Central Directors of the ANP Staff and the Ministry of National Defence, as well as members of the South African delegation.

During this audience, the two parties “reviewed the state of military cooperation between the armies of the two countries, as well as the means and prospects for their development,” the statement said, adding that they also “discussed the security challenges facing the world and the African continent in particular, and exchanged views on issues of common interest.

On this occasion, the Army General delivered an address in which he welcomed the South African official and his delegation, stressing that “this visit to Algeria reflects the political will of the high authorities of the two countries to bring the bilateral military cooperation at the level of historical relations and friendship that bind the two countries.

” This cooperation would benefit from being included in the framework of a military cooperation protocol, to be ratified by the two armies, and I am convinced that your visit today will contribute to the definition of the outlines of this cooperation and, consequently, to the signing of a related agreement between our two institutions”, said Mr Chanegriha.

In addition, the Army General highlighted “the real will that drives the two countries in terms of unifying efforts for the establishment of peace and stability on the African continent,” the same source said.

“I would like to reaffirm our sincere desire to unite our efforts to implement a dynamic cooperation that meets the aspirations of our peoples, especially since the relationship between the two countries has a high quality of excellence, reflected in particular by the common will to contribute effectively to the implementation of peace and stability on the African continent,” he said.

For his part, Army General Rudzani Maphwanya “expressed his thanks for the hospitality accorded to him and his delegation, before underlining the convergence of views and analyses on current continental and international issues, as well as his country’s readiness to work towards strengthening bilateral military cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties exchanged gifts, before the Commander of the National Defence Forces of South Africa, proceeded to the signing of the Golden Book of the Staff of the ANP, concludes the statement.
