Bakkai discusses with the Ambassador of the Netherlands ways and means to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of transport

 

The Minister of Transport, Issa Bakkai, has discussed with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Algeria, Mrs. Jana Vander Veld, ways and opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport, especially in the field of developing portsinfrastructure, maritime transport and logistics, according to a ministry’s statement.

During his meeting with the Ambassador of the Netherlands on Monday, the minister presented the general framework of the government’s work plan in the field of transport, highlighting the efforts made in the field of air, land and sea transport, especially with regard to fishing and leisure ports.

He also praised the level of political and economic relations between the two countries, recalling the will of the Algerian government to strengthen bilateral cooperation in its various forms, especially maritime transport by developing the field of ship repair and building, through concluding a partnership between the National Shipbuilding and Repair Companyand one of its Dutch counterparts.

In this regard, Mr. Bakkai invited the Ambassador, as well as Dutch companies specialized in the field of ship repair and building, to participate in the activities of the national exhibition on the development of ship repair and building to be organized in the “next few daysin Algeria.”

For her part, the Dutch ambassador expressed, according to the same source, her country’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Algeria in various fields of transport, especially in the field of developing the basic infrastructure of ports, building and managing logistic platforms, and developing hydrogen transport. She extended, on the occasion, an invitation to the minister to visit the Netherlands and take stock of its leading experience in the field of transport.

The two parties agreed to continue holding bilateral meetings in order to enhance cooperation relations to achieve the two countries’ common interest, according to the statement, which indicated that Algeria and the Netherlands are linked by a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the port of Algiers and the port of Amsterdam, concluded between the two port administrations on July 12, 2016.
