Belani receives President of EU Agency for Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Amar Belani received Tuesday the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation, Ladislav Hamran, said the ministry in a statement.

The meeting comes within the framework of the talks held on Monday by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, with the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell.

After recalling the commitments of the President of the Republic regarding the fight against corruption, money laundering and the recovery of funds transferred illegally abroad, the SG of the Ministry affirmed ‘the political will of the Algerian authorities to undertake close cooperation with the EU Agency for Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters with a view to taking advantage of its broad expertise and exceptional experience in terms of freezing, confiscation and recovery of funds and assets transferred illegally abroad, in addition to strengthening cooperation relations between the judicial authorities in Algeria and the EU member states.

For his part, Ladislav Hamran expressed “the readiness of his body and its commitment to provide all necessary forms of support and technical assistance to Algerian authorities in terms of investigations and facilitating communication with its European counterparts in dealing with cases relating to the recovery of funds looted in Algeria”, the press release concluded.
