Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Abderrahmane Lotfi Djamel Benbahmed, said today, Sunday, in the province of Oum El Bouaghi, that a new unit for the production of insulin 100 percent Algerian will enter into service “in the beginning of next July”.
In an interview with the press at the end of a working visit to this wilaya, during which he inspected his sector’s projects, the minister explained that this unit, which will start producing insulin, and which is based in Algiers, will be launched “next July 2.”
Benbahmed added that the Algerian competencies in the pharmaceutical industry were able to be up to the challenge and entered the field of manufacturing in the fields of cancer drugs and insulin, saying: “We must believe in ourselves, in each other, and in our capabilities in order to build the new Algeria.”
The Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry also valued the achievements and the quality of medicines produced by the Algerian pharmaceutical units in terms of quality and efficacy, in addition to the availability of laboratories and the necessary scientific competencies in the wilayats of Constantine and Oum El Bouaghi.
The minister mentioned that the pharmaceutical industry in Algeria has entered a new stage, which is the stage of “technological transformation” in the field of producing cancer medicines, diabetes medicines and others.
Mr. Benbahmed started his visit to the province of Oum El Bouaghi by inspecting the Ain Melilla unit specialized in the manufacture of solid and injectable anti-cancer drugs, which required 80 million DA to be complete, with a production capacity of 50 million boxes annually, which will enter the production phase “before the end of the current year (2022)”, according to the explanations given to him on the spot.
The Minister also inaugurated another unit for the production of reagents and medical preparations, with a production capacity of 4.5 million units annually, in addition to the inauguration of a unit for the production of anti-cancer drugs affiliated with a complex in Ain Melilla.
For reference, two new units for the production of medicines belonging to the pharmaceutical laboratory BIOGALENIC in the municipality of Zighoud Youcef (north of Constantine) were inaugurated yesterday, Saturday, by the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry during his visit to this wilaya.
