Benbouzid: Providing urgent health needs for Palestinian people

Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, participated in the meeting of the 55th regular session of the Council of Arab Health Ministers, through video-conference, where he discussed a number of issues, most notably the burdens imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic on the Arab health system, as reported today by the ministry in a press release.

During this virtual session, the Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform affirmed, “Algeria’s full solidarity, government and people, with the Palestinian people and work to provide health needs by urgently supporting the Palestinian health sector.” He also stated that Algeria would provide “material support” to sister country; Palestine.

The agenda of this session chaired by the Republic of Tunisia touched on several points, the most prominent of which is the draft Arab strategy and the mechanism for its implementation to obtain Covid-19 vaccines, unifying efforts to ensure the provision and equitable distribution of vaccines to Arab countries, the draft Arab strategy for a health-friendly budget, and the draft unified speech of the Council of Arab Health Ministers, before the 74th session of the WHO General Assembly.

Other points were also on the agenda, such as health, health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan, and Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism Resolution N° 290 concerning supporting the re-launch and revitalization of tourism and travel sector in the Arab countries, in addition to the formation of the executive office of the Council of Arab Health Ministers for the years 2021-2023 and the Arab Council for Specializations, according to the same source.
