Boughali stresses the need to draft clear and transparent laws for media practice

The Speaker of the National People’s Assembly, Brahim Boughali, stressed today, Wednesday in Algiers, the need of draft clear and transparent laws to enable the media to play its role in enlightening society.

During his supervision of the opening of a study day on “Public Service Controls in Media Legislation in Algeria” hosted by the headquarters of the National People’s Assembly, Mr. Boughali indicated that “the new vision of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune aimed at rebuilding inclusive systems that work together in building a modern society, the media has a major role to play, as it is one of the most important means of enlightenment and societal advancement, requiring clear and transparent laws for practicing the profession and removing all outstanding impurities, thus allowing its professionals to live up to  the society’s aspirations.

In this regard, Mr. Boughali highlighted that “the new texts that will deal with the issue of the media proposed the development of a basic law that defines the conditions for practicing the profession and the rights and duties associated with it, in addition to proposing the establishment of a council of ethics and deontology of the journalist’s profession in charge of preparing a charter that establishes a framework that protects the journalist and society.”

The Speaker of the National People’s Assembly did not miss the opportunity to praise the role of the Algerian media figures who were able – as he said – to “reach excellence during the national movement and during the blessed liberation revolution, and whose contributions continued in the battle of building and construction.”
