CHAN 2022 / Algeria-Libya: “The Greens” targeting victory against Libya

The Algerian national football team for local players is making its big start in the African Nations Championship (CHAN-2022, postponed to 2023), by facing its Libyan counterpart in the opening of the seventh edition of the competition at the “Nelson Mandela” stadium in Baraki (20:00 local time).

After 12 years of its only participation in this competition, Algeria remains a strong candidate for the title the requests a successful start against the Libyan squad that previously won the title in the 2014 tournament in South Africa.

The coach of the national football team A’, made up of local players, Madjid Bougherra on Thursday noted the importance of winning the first match of the CHAN-2022 African Nations Championship, Friday against Libya at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Baraki, as part of the 1st day (Grp.A).

Following the training before the competition, which ended with a friendly match last Saturday against Ghana (0-0), the time has come for the national team to go through serious matters, by not missing the first game of the tournament, even facing Libya as the factor of surprises is famous during these kind of competition.

Regarding the Libyan team, Madjid Bougherra says: “We know our first opponant in the tournament by heart without diving into details. We know very well its strengths and weaknesses. Libya plays like the Algerian way, with players who are very aggressive, strong technical skills and competitive.”

Back again on victories track to restore self-confidence

The national team, whose main concern remains winning the title, will be required not only to overcome the obstacle of the “Mediterranean Knights”, but at the same time put an end to the series of four matches without winning.

And before stumbling against Ghana, the “locals” had two draws last December against Mauritania (0-0) and Senegal (2-2) at the May 19, 1956 stadium of Annaba, and a defeat in November in Dubai, UAE, against Kuwait (0-1) on the sidelines of the UAE training.
