Charaf-Eddine Amara: “ African Championship for Local Players 2023 will be held in Algeria”

The President of the Algerian Football Federation, Mr. Charaf-Eddine Amara, confirmed today, Thursday that the African Championship for local players 2023 will be held in Algeria, as it was scheduled, refusing some of the rumors about the transfer of its residence to another country.

The head of the Federal Authority said: The African Championship for local players will be held in Algeria according to the program established for it, and rumors of changing its place of residence are caused by a communication error from the Ivorian side.

The Ivorian government had announced, in a statement published yesterday evening on its official website, that the African Championship for local players 2023 will be held in Côte d’Ivoire, while the organization of this tournament was assigned to Algeria in September 2018.

The statement of the Ivorian government came in the wake of the visit of a committee of the African Confederation (CAF) led by its Secretary-General Musingo-Omba to Cote d’Ivoire, in order to examine the progress of works and preparations in anticipation of hosting the activities of the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations 2023 scheduled in Cote d’Ivoire from June 23 to July 23.

It is known that the African Championship for Local Players (2022) will be held from January 8 to 31, 2023 in Algeria, after it was postponed by one year due to the repercussions of the Coronavirus “Covid-19”.
