“The Algerian woman presented unprecedented images of heroism, and she was a shining model of struggle and sacrifice for the sake of the nation’s sovereignty. She inherited pride and dignity from her ancestors and passed it on to the next generations. She thus constituted an important ring in the chain of cohesion and unity of the Algerian society, in a time of destruction, especially through its keenness to preserve the values and ethics of her society, and to stand as an impenetrable shield against all attempts to neutralize and prejudice the identity of the Algerian nation, which is deep rooted in history.

“In this particular regard, I have the duty to stand in reverence, admiration and pride, in front of the sacrifices of all the women and martyrs of Algeria, throughout  history, starting from the popular resistance and during the glorious liberation revolution, all the way to the years of the fight against terrorism, when the women and heroines of Algeria stood with firmness and steadfastness, not only in the face of brutal and bloody terrorism, but also in the face of its obscurantist ideology of fundamentalism and religious extremism”

The same statement added that “Mr. Chengriha stressed that initiatives have been carried out within the People’s National Army, the worthy heir of the National Liberation Army, to empower women and enable them to play a pivotal role in the development and improvement of the capabilities of our armed forces, until they became an effective figure in many disciplines, which until recently were limited to their male colleagues.
