Chitour: First solar kilowatt hour of the new program expected early 2022

Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Chems Eddine Chitour, announced today, Monday, here in Algiers, that the first solar kilowatt hour (KWh) for the 1,000 MWh program under the framework of the renewable energies’ development program should be produced “by the end of the year or at the latest at the beginning of the next year.”

During a press interview on the sidelines of a symposium on sustainable and innovative energy transition organized by ministerial department in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program in Algeria UNDP, Mr. Chitour stated: “If things go well,” the call tender for this program will be launched next June, adding that in two or three months it is possible to build the solar stations intended for the production of electric energy for the realization of this program in the ten wilayas selected to this effect.

The minister underlined, in this connection, that what is “most important is to find an agreement on the price” so that the day of the launch of the call for tender the operators know what to expect.

Thus, Mr. Chitour estimated that in September or October the ministry will have finished the negotiations with the operators concerning the price of the kilowatt hour, adding that the first MWh will simplify the rest of the program since the whole of the procedure will have been finalized.
