Coast guard units rescue 13 illegal immigrants and recover four bodies

Coast Guard units of the Naval Forces Command managed, on Saturday, to rescue 13 illegal immigrants and recover the bodies of four other migrants who drowned after their boat capsized 16 nautical miles north of Algiers, according to a statement by the Ministry of National Defense.

The statement said: “as part of the tasks of the coast guard units of  Naval Forces Command, especially the humanitarian ones, yesterday, October 16, 2021, two search and rescue units belonging to the regional group of coast guards in Algiers and a search and rescue helicopter belonging to the navy managed to rescue and rescue (13) illegal immigrants and recover four (04) bodies of other migrants drowned after their boat capsized 16 nautical miles north of Algiers.

The statement added that this intervention “reflects the efforts made by our naval forces in carrying out its various tasks at sea, as well as preserving the safety of our citizens.”
