Commander of the Naval Forces meets Commander of US Military Command in Africa “AFRICOM” in the Italian capital, Rome

The Commander of the Naval Forces met, on the sidelines of the 2022 African Defense Chiefs Conference, held from February 01 to February 04 in the Italian capital, Rome, with the Commander of the US Military Command in Africa (AFRICOM), First Lieutenant-General Stephen Townsend to whom he conveyed the greetings of the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha and whom he thank for his invitation to participate in the proceedings of this important conference,” a statement by the Ministry of National Defense said yesterday.

In its statement, the ministry indicated that “during this meeting, which brings together the chiefs of staff of the armies of the countries of the African continent and the US military command in Africa – AFRICOM – several security files have been discussed and ways to develop cooperation in various fields related to the activity of the US military command in Africa have been examined, in addition to the latest developments in the African continent in general, and the Sahel region in particular”

The Commander Naval Forces had another meeting with Major General Kenneth Ekman, Director of Strategy, Partnership and Programs at AFRICOM, in which the two parties reviewed the dangers of terrorism and cross-border crime, in addition to regional developments in the region, according to the same statement.
