Numerous sports and cultural activities have been scheduled in different municipalities of the Wilaya of Constantine to promote the African Nations Championship CHAN, the city where the matches of the third group will be played in the Martyr Hamlaoui stadium, the Organizing Committee of the Wilaya said Thursday.
According to the same source, the Directorate of Youth and Sports has scheduled local sports competitions and tournaments organized in the Wilaya of Constantine by adapting the calendar of local sports events with the CHAN to involve the participants in the efforts to promote the CHAN 2022, such as the organization of the second Grand Prix of the late “Birouk Saleh” of cycling in Zighoud Youcef, in addition to the national championship of the rural enemy “Abdul Majid Ubaydah” in the forest of Barawiya in the municipality of Al-Kharoub, as well as the state championship of Kickboxing in Constantine, and the organisation of the cross-country “Abdelmadjid Oubida” in El Khroub and also the local cup of Kickboxing in the city of Constantine.
Civil society was also involved in the organisation of numerous sports sessions throughout the province, such as a football tournament in the Bakira neighbourhood in the municipality of Hama Bouziane, bringing together veteran footballers from MC Constantine and Club Sportif Constantinois, in addition to another special tournament for the under-15 category with the participation of 16 teams from the towns of the province of Constantine, as well as a football tournament for popular neighbourhoods organised in the El Quemas neighbourhood with the participation of 8 teams.
According to the Organising Committee of the Province of Constantine for the CHAN 2022, these initiatives will also raise awareness among participants, fans and sports enthusiasts of the need to contribute to creating a good image of Constantine and Algeria as a whole, both inside and outside the stadiums.
On the other hand, a cultural programme has been prepared to follow the rhythm of the African event, which includes performances, exhibitions and cultural and artistic activities through the infrastructures of the culture sector, such as the Mohammed Taher Fergani regional theatre, the Mohammed Eid El Khalifa Palace of Culture, the Sirta Museum and the Ahmed Bey Palace, which will aim to promote the tangible and intangible cultural patrimony of the city, such as the traditional clothes, the local gastronomy and the singing heritage.
Invitations have also been extended to artists to contribute to the enrichment of this event through the revival of evenings and artistic performances at the House of Culture “Malik Haddad” and at the Great Ahmed Bey Exhibition Hall throughout the days of the Chan championship, so that the guests of the Wilaya will have colourful choices to appreciate the richness of the city of bridges
An area will also be allocated to literature, where a special exhibition on the city’s literary heritage will be organised at the Mustafa Natour Main Library for Public Reading and open doors on the Heritage Library, as well as the organisation of mobile library outings in the city centre, as well as a literary cultural convoy travelling through various municipalities in the province.
