Following the extraordinary meeting chaired today, Wednesday, by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, devoted to assessing the epidemiological situation in the country on account of the spread of the Corona virus pandemic (Covid-19), it was decided to suspend school for a period of 10 days in the three educational phases, as of tomorrow, Thursday, according to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.

The statement said: “The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired today, an extraordinary meeting to assess the epidemiological situation in the country, in the presence of members of the Scientific Committee of monitoring the evolution of the outbreak of the Corona virus, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, a number of government members and officials of Security bodies.

After an in-depth discussion about the development of the epidemic and the preventive measures to be taken, it was unanimously noted that the epidemiological situation in our country has so far been controlled, despite the rapid spread of COVID-19 infections, especially in schools. Accordingly, it was decided, as a preventive measure, to suspend school for a period of ten (10) days in the three educational phases (primary, intermediate and secondary), as of  Thursday, January 20, 2022.

As for the decision to close universities, it is up to the managers of universities and institutes who should take into account the calendar of exams and the possibility of rescheduling them for students.

The meeting confirmed that vaccination remains the only way to achieve herd immunity, especially after it was found that 94 percent of deaths as a result of Covid-19 did not receive vaccination, stressing the need to respect all preventive measures in all commercial spaces and public facilities, with the penalty of immediate closure of any business whose owner fails to respect these measures, including mass transportation.
