Culture Minister: Algeria loses figurehead in Algerian art

The minister of Culture and Arts, Wafa Chaalal, said that Algeria “lost a figurehead in the Algerian art” as artist Fettouma Lemitti, by her stage name Seloua, died Thursday at the age of 86 after a long illness.

In a message of condolences addressed to the family of the late artist and to the Algerian artistic family, the Minister expressed her sincere condolences and her deep compassion following the disappearance of the artist who “left a rich repertoire of beautiful artistic works having contributed to the enrichment of the national artistic register and allowed it to attract a large base of fans”.

The body of the deceased will be transferred today, Friday, to the Palace of Culture, Moufdi Zakaria, starting at 11:00, to enable artists and her fans to pay her a last tribute, according to the Ministry of Culture.
