Customs: considerable quantities of drugs and psychotropics seized since 2019

Considerable quantities of drugs and psychotropics were seized by the Customs services between 2019 and the end of May 2022, said a press release from the General Directorate of Customs (DGD) on Sunday.

In this context, the DGD report shows 183 cases recorded in 2019, the quantity of seizures amounting to 2,269.15 kg of treated kif, 2.2 kg of cocaine, 1.5 kg of Bango (variety of cannabis) and 288,492 psychotropic tablets.

The overall value of seizures in 2019 reached 388,436,967 Da, while the number of means of transport seized was 69 cars and one (1) truck. The balance sheet also reported 215 individuals arrested and 1905914116 Da in fines imposed.

In 2020, some 196 cases were recorded leading to the seizure of 16,636.53 kg of treated kif, 18.1 kg of cocaine, 15 mg of Bango and 1408,130 psychotropic tablets.

The results recorded reflect the efforts made through the tightening of customs control mechanisms, the strengthening of patrols on the ground in the customs territory and the intensification of programs for customs checkpoints and joint checkpoints with the security services within the framework of the fight against all forms of smuggling, in particular the trafficking of these poisons which have proliferated in recent years, in addition to the negative effects which result from it on the health and safety of the citizen and on public order, concludes the same source.
