Finance Minister participates in the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund

Finance Minister Brahim Djamel Kessali will head to Washington today, Wednesday, to participate in the joint annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund that will be held from October 13-16, 2022, according to a ministry statement.

The source indicated that the Minister of Finance will participate, as part of these annual meetings, in the general meeting of the Bretton Woods institutions, and will also attend the proceedings of the Development Committee of the World Bank and the Financial and Monetary Committee of the International Monetary Fund.

The statement added that Mr. Kessali will also participate in several meetings of the governors of the Middle East, North Africa and Africa with the President of the World Bank Group and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

On the sidelines of the annual meetings, the Finance Minister will meet with officials of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, as well as senior officials from international and regional financial institutions participating in the event.

He will also meet, on the sidelines of the annual meetings, with some of his counterparts from member states of the Bretton Woods institutions, to the status and prospects of cooperation with Algeria. The annual meetings of the two institutions will be an opportunity to bring together the most important actors in the fields of economy and finance to discuss important issues related to economic development, the global economic situation, the fight against poverty, the international financial system and human capital.

The statement indicated that the 2022 edition of these annual meetings serves as a platform for exchanging views on the current challenges posed by the international context, especially those related to food and energy security, the fight against inflation, climate change and digital transformation.
