
Fires declared across several wilayas in the north of the country have been “totally extinguished”, with 73 outbreaks completely under control in the last 24 hours, said the Deputy Director of Statistics and Information at the General Directorate of Civil Protection, Colonel Farouk Achour.
“Today, around 4:00 a.m., we managed to put out all the fires,” he said. By wilaya, 26 outbreaks of fire were extinguished in the wilaya of El Tarf, 18 outbreaks in Souk Ahras, 4 outbreaks in Tizi Ouzou, 4 Skikda, 4 in Tipaza, 4 in Guelma, 4 in Constantine, 2 in Sétif, 2 in Bejaia, one in Jijel, 1 in Tebessa, one in Chlef, one in Blida and one in Tlemcen, according to Colonel Achour.
Another outbreak in the wilaya of Skida has been extinguished but is still under surveillance, according to him. Thirty-seven (37) people lost their lives and 183 others were injured in these forest fires, according to the latest report from Civil Protection.
In the wilaya of El-Tarf, 30 people died in these fires, 5 in Souk Ahras, and 2 other people who succumbed to their injuries in Sétif, according to the same source.
