Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, held a series of intensive meetings with his counterparts participating in the work of the United Nations General Assembly, and with senior officials in the US administration, during his participation in the high-level meeting of the 76th session, which will be held in New York from 20 to 28 September 2021, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today, Tuesday.
The press release indicated that Lamamra received at the headquarters of the Algerian mission to the United Nations, Victoria Nuland, the US Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs in charge of political affairs. .
The talks also focused “on many current regional and international issues, especially the issue of Western Sahara and the prospects for reviving the political process and direct negotiations between the two parties of the conflict, the Sahrawi Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as the prevailing situation in Libya in light of the recent meeting of neighboring countries held in Algiers, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East and the African Sahel.
In this regard, Ms. Nuland expressed “the support of the United States of America for Algeria’s efforts to promote peace and security at the regional and international levels.”
The same source highlighted that the Algerian chief of diplomacy participated in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly currently being held in New York and follow-up efforts within the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in ending the occupation, and stopping all Israeli aggressive practices against the brotherly Palestinian people.
The communiqué stated that Lamamra also gave an interview to CNN International, during which the discussion centered on Algerian-American relations, as well as Algeria’s pivotal role in the region and on the continent through its initiatives and good offices to promote peaceful political solutions to crises.
