Football: Algeria to play friendly match against Mauritania on the third of June in Blida

The national football team will play a friendly match against Mauritania on Thursday June 3 at Mustapha-Tchaker stadium in Blida (8:30 p.m.). It will be the first preparatory match for the 2022 World Cup second qualifying round, of which the  kick-off has been postponed to September, Algerian Federation (FAF) announced Thursday evening in a statement.

“The national team will have the opportunity to play one or two other friendly matches at the same period, more details will be announced later,” the federation said on its official Facebook page.

National coach Djamel Belmadi and FAF president Amara Charaf-Eddine have agreed to organize friendly matches, following the decision taken by the CAF Emergency Committee, in consultation with FIFA, to postpone the start of the second qualifying round from June to September, due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The last two friendly matches of the national team were played in October 2020. The first was against Nigeria in Austria (1-0), while the second was in the Netherlands against Mexico (2-2). Unbeaten in 24 consecutive matches, Algeria, in Group A, will begin the 2022 World Cup qualifying tour in September by receiving Djibouti, before travelling to face Burkina Faso.
