Government affirms “commitment” to create appropriate conditions for “real” film industry launch

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aïmen Benabderrahmane affirmed today, Monday in Algiers, the government’s “commitment” to set up mechanisms that would create appropriate and effective conditions for the launch of a “real film industry”, within the framework of supporting film sector, making it “one of the tributaries of the national economy.”

When presenting the government’s plan of action to the deputies of People’s National  Assembly, in the presence of members of the executive body, Mr. Benabderrahmane said that the government, in the framework of supporting the film sector, making it “one of the tributaries of the national economy”, will work “to put in place mechanisms that allow the creation of appropriate and effective conditions for the launch of a real cinema industry based on encouraging investment and liberalizing initiatives in a way that makes Algeria a regional, and why not international, pole for the production and shooting of films”.

The Prime Minister added that the government will also “promote theater, making it a space for promoting real talent,” noting in this regard that “theater is the father of arts, and its role in the new Algeria must be effective in building a culture of citizenship and patriotism.”

With regard to cultural heritage, Mr. Benabderrahmane also affirmed the government’s commitment to “preserve and value” cultural heritage in order to “pass it on to future generations” and “activate its economic, social and educational role,” adding that “artistic creativity and cultural entrepreneurship will be supported through the valorization of the artist profession and the actors in the art field, as well as the promotion of art education in school and university subjects.”
