Government is studies draft executive decree defining conditions and modalities for placing landmarks on board ships equipped for sea fishing

During the government meeting, which was chaired yesterday by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, a draft executive decree was presented and studied that defines the conditions and modalities for setting landmarks for positioning on board ships prepared and equipped for fishing, in order to modernize fishing practices and secure fishermen in the event of an accident at sea, according to a statement of the services of the Prime Minister.

This draft text comes “in implementation of the amending and supplementing law of Law No. 01-11 related to marine fishing and aquaculture, which obliges ships intended for marine fishing to be equipped with a location marker,” according to the same source.

The statement indicated that it is related to “the installation of a marine fishing fleet monitoring system, the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS), which aims to “protect and preserve fishing resources,” noting that this system “will be mandatory for some categories of marine fishing vessels.”
