The Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, chaired on Wednesday, 25 January 2023, a Government meeting held at the Government Palace.

During its weekly meeting, the Government discussed the following items:

In the field of Justice:

The Government has examined a draft executive decree setting out the organisation and operating procedures of regional training schools for lawyers, submitted by the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals.

The draft executive decree, which comes in application of the provisions of Law No 13-07 of 29 October 2013, on the organisation of the lawyer’s profession, provides for a flexible and adapted mode of organisation and operation for these schools, involving the National Union of Lawyers’ Associations and taking into account the primordial place of the lawyer in the judicial system and in the enshrinement of the constitutionally recognised right to defence.

The main task of these schools will be to provide specialised training for student lawyers, with a view to obtaining the certificate of aptitude for the legal profession (CAPA), as well as continuing training and further training for lawyers.

In the field of agriculture:

The Government has examined a draft executive decree on the declassification of a parcel of the Ouled Zaied state forest, in the commune of Ouled Driss ( Province of Souk Ahras), intended for the construction of an electric post, presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

This project is part of the operation to build high and very high voltage electricity transmission stations to supply the future phosphoric acid production project as part of the large integrated phosphate complex.

In the field of the pharmaceutical industry:

The Government examined a draft executive decree amending executive decree n 20-324 of 22 November 2020 on the modalities of approval of medical devices, presented by the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry.

The draft text, which grants a 24-month extension for medical devices that do not have approval decisions and that will continue to be sold, aims to ensure the availability of the medical devices on the national market and thus guarantee the proper functioning of health institutions and better patient care.

This extension will be supported by a number of appropriate supervision and control measures and mechanisms to ensure that medical devices commercialised at national level comply with international norms and standards, pending their approval by the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products.

Finally, in the field of statistics:

The Minister of Digitisation and Statistics presented a statement on the assessment of the 6th general population and housing census which took place from 25 September to 16 October 2022.

This report presents the first results on the total population and the housing stock in Algeria, based on information collected from households.

The results of the second phase are expected within three months and will provide more disaggregated information on the demographic situation of the population, its structure and composition, as well as a set of data relating to its living conditions and the progress made by Algeria on the socio-economic level.
