Governor of the Capital: Operating a seawater desalination plant in “Palm Beach” next Sunday

The governor of the capital, Youcef Chorfa, annouced today, Thursday, the operation of the seawater desalination plant located in “Palm Beach” next Sunday, which will enhance the capacity of supplying the capital with drinking water.

The governor of Algiers, on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of a letter of commitment between Sonatrach and “Cosider” Foundation in order to launch projects for the completion of three seawater desalination plants in the east of the capital, said that this plant located in Staoueli (Algeria-west) “has been increased in capacity. The production capacity is 5000 m3/day, and it will come into operation on Sunday,” noting that the original capacity of the “Palm Beach” plant was 2500 m3/day.

This facility is part of an emergency program launched by the Ministry of Water Resources to contribute to securing drinking water supplies in the province of Algiers, a program that includes the expansion of three other seawater desalination plants.

This concerns the stations of Ain Benian, Zeralda, which were rehabilitated after their closure in 2013, and Bousmail (Tipaza governorate). He also announced that the three projects, with a production capacity of 10,000 m3/day, will be received before next September.
