Industry: several facilitations to encourage investment in the Great South

The Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zeghdar said on Thursday in Algiers that his ministry was very keen on encouraging industrial investment in the South and the Great South, through facilitation and incentive measures for investors, especially in terms of granting land and exempting imported raw materials from customs duties.

“The State attaches great importance to encouraging industrial investment in the South and the Great South, through facilitation and incentive measures for investors, with the aim of creating a dynamic, boosting the national economy and achieving overall development in the various provinces,” said Zeghdar during a plenary session devoted to oral questions at the National People’s Assembly (NPA), chaired by Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the Assembly, in the presence of a number of ministers.

In response to a question from MP Mohamed Mansouri (Rassemblement National Démocratique-RND party) on the measures taken to support the Great South in terms of industrial zones in order to encourage investment, the minister recalled the launch of several industrial projects, notably in the steel, cement, mechanical and food industries, which have contributed to boosting the economy by meeting local demand and then moving towards exports.

The government offered several incentives to producers in order to encourage the investment sector, particularly in the Great South, including the granting of land for the creation of investment projects and the exemption of imported goods from customs duties and value added tax, added the minister.

Local subcontractor, benefit from advantages such as a five-year exemption from customs duties and value added tax (VAT) on imported raw materials, said the minister.

Regarding the creation of qualified industrial zones (QIZ) to attract investors in the South, the Minister reported the creation, by local authorities in the province of In Guezzam, of an activity zone of about 80 hectares, in addition to the choice of a plot of land at the level of the municipality of Tiziouatine with a surface area of 60 ha, with a view to creating a second activity zone and another plot of land for the creation of a micro-activity zone, with a view to encouraging young people to set up small and medium enterprises.
