Institut Pasteur: 47 new cases of “Omicron” variant detected in Algeria

The Pasteur Institute announced yesterday, Friday in a statement the discovery of 47 new cases of the “Omicron” variant in Algeria, bringing the number of confirmed cases of this variant to 63.

It concerns 29 cases from the province of Algiers, 6 cases from the province of Bejaïa, and one (1) case from the province of Bouira, which were cases accompanied by previously confirmed cases, as well as 11 cases from the province of Constantine, who happen to be travelers coming from France, Turkey and Britain.

Thus, Algeria has recorded 63 confirmed cases of this mutant so far.

The statement concluded, “Vaccination remains the most effective way to avoid complications and serious cases, in addition to strict adherence to preventive health measures, namely wearing a protective mask, physical distancing, and frequent hand washing.”
