Lamamra affirms from Addis Ababa Algeria’s commitment to preserve unity of African ranks

Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra confirmed, Thursday, from Addis Ababa, Algeria’s firm commitment to the African continent and its constant quest to preserve the unity of African ranks and uphold the principles and values ​​established by the founding fathers of the continental organization.

In his intervention, Lamamra, head of the Algerian delegation in the work of the 39th session of the Executive Council of the African Union, which started yesterday, Thursday in the Ethiopian capital, called upon his counterparts to spare the African Union the factors of division, and to give priority to the collective interest, and to correct recent mistakes that may undermine the spirit of solidarity and unity of the African House once and for all.

On the other hand, the Algerian head of diplomacy stressed the need to rationalize the expenses of the organization to reduce the percentage of dependence on international partners and donors in financing the activities of the continental organization, stressing the need to respect the principle of African ownership of the activities of the African Union and to ensure non-external interference in its internal affairs.

Lamamra also took the opportunity to discuss the report of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention, to recall Algeria’s efforts in combating Coronavirus pandemic, noting the launch of the process of manufacturing an anti-Coronavirus vaccine in Algeria, and stressing Algeria’s readiness to contribute as much as possible to meeting the needs of its African brothers in this field.

Intensive consultations on the sidelines of the Executive Council’s work

Algeria had a distinguished participation in the work of the first day of the 39th session of the Executive Council of the African Union, which was distinguished by the interventions of the head of the Algerian delegation in all discussions.

The Algerian chief of diplomacy also had extensive consultations on the sidelines of this session, where he held a series of bilateral talks with his counterparts from: South Africa, Zambia, Togo, Burundi, Chad, Nigeria, Uganda, Namibia and Djibouti.

The main items on the agenda of the Executive Council session were the focus of those meetings, with the aim of consulting and coordinating positions.
