Lamamra stresses the need to preserve main mandate of UN Economic and Social Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra has called for the urgent implementation of the main mandate of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to advance the dimensions of sustainable economic, social and environmental development.

During a meeting held via videoconference under the theme “strengthening (ECOSOC) at its 75th anniversary” Mr. Lamamra indicated that Algeria strongly believes in the necessity to preserve the ECOSOC’s main mandate to make the 3 development dimension move forward.

He underlined that the mandate’ implementation has never been as urgent as it is now on account of the new challenges created by the Covid 19 pandemic and the global recession that hit the world.

The Algerian diplomacy chief added that the issues related to global governance and the means of achieving the 2030 agenda and reaching a shared prosperity should me tackled more than ever before.

He underlined that one of the key messages of the 7th African regional forum on sustainable development, co chaired by Algeria, is the urgent need for international partners to reinforce the mechanisms of multilateral cooperation and ensure the full and timely release of their financial commitments.

Finally, Mr. Lamamra emphasized that the ECOSOC should remain the main coordination and supervision body for the operational activities of the UN development system as stipulated by the UN charter and work actively to avoid living anybody out in the process of implementing the 2030 agenda.
